20% of Kabul Parliamentary Elections Result Sheets Are Missing: IECC

KABUL - The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said that 20 percent result sheets of Kabul parliamentary elections are missing.
Mohammad Qasim Elyasi, a member of the IECC told Ariana News that due to the missing result sheets the electoral bodies are unable yet to announce the final result of Kabul elections.
He added that the electoral bodies were unable to find a solution to the problem yet.
Recently, IECC invalidated the preliminary result of Kabul parliamentary elections and said that it has decided to validate all original result sheets which were filled on the polling day.
Meanwhile, electoral observers believe validating the initial result sheets is illegal and will not lead to the desired result.
“Considering the legal procedures, if the [electoral bodies] investigate the result sheet of polling day without looking to the complaints, it means we are turning a blind eye to the legal procedures,” said Yousuf Rashid, the Chief Executive Officer of Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA).
“I believe the commission will not be able to separate black and white with the initial result sheets,” said Daud Ali Najafi, a former electoral official.
However, Mawlana Mohammad Abdullah a member of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) says that IEC will announce the final result of Kabul election within four days once IECC finalized its assessments.
More than six months have passed since Afghanistan hold the country’s parliamentary elections but the final result of the capital Kabul is still awaiting due to major fraud and mismanagement by the IEC.
Lawmakers who represent Kabul province have 33 of the 250 seats in Afghanistan’s lower house of parliament. (ATN)
