KUNDUZ CITY - During his trip to Kunduz province on Tuesday, Tadamichi Yamamoto attended a seminar titled “Women’s Role in ongoing Peace Process”.
Dr. Khaibar Saifi, the Kunduz University chancellor, said the role of educated youth and academic organs in tackling violence and maintaining peace was vital.
Yamamoto said: “It is a good honor for the UN to hold a seminar on women’s role in the peace process and awareness of youth in Kunduz province.”
The diplomat added the world body always stood with the Afghans and it would continue to support them in dealing with the challenges facing their country.
Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission head Seema Samar called the war a major reason behind Afghanistan’s problems. She said: “The main reason that we cannot compare Afghanistan with foreign nations is war.”
She termed poverty another reason that caused violence, war, forced marriage and elopement affecting the people of Afghanistan in this era.
Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi said, unfortunately, the conflict had resulted in the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and displacement of many families.
The war had negatively impacted the economy, health, education, development and reconstruction sectors, which urgently needed to be developed with the help of the government and international organisations. (Pajhwok)
