Taliban Show No Sign of Willingness to Peace: Mobib

KABUL - National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mobib has said the Taliban show no sign of willingness to peace and reconciliation in the country, according to a statement on Wednesday.
Mohib expressed these views while addressing a six-nation meeting on Afghanistan and regional security situation in Ufa, Russia.
Afghanistan, Russia, China, India, Iran and Pakistan representatives were present on the occasion.
According to a statement from the National Security Council, Mohib demanded a formal contact with the government of Afghanistan instead of other groups. This was welcomed by the participating members.
He said the people of Afghanistan rendered sacrifices in the war against terrorism on the behalf of the region and international community and demanded the recognition of these sacrifices on regional and global levels.
He added the president of Afghanistan took unprecedented steps for the establishment of peace and reconciliation and the convention of Peace Jirga was one of these efforts.
He said the Afghan government was committed to implementing the demands raised during the Loya Jirga and added the release of Taliban prisoners was one of their demands. Unfortunately, the Taliban showed no interest to reciprocate these efforts for peace and reconciliation, he said.  (Pajhwok)
