Afghan Forces Recapture  2 Strategic Areas in Maimana

MAIMANA - Local officials on Tuesday said Afghan forces have recaptured two strategic locations after a year in the outskirts of Maimana, capital of northwestern Faryab province.
Abdul Karim Yourish, Faryab police spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that Kata Qala and Hazara Qala areas of Maimana city were fallen to militants about a year ago but they were cleared off militants during a joint operation today.
A Taliban official also confirmed retreating from the two locations.
Kata Qala is a strategic and industrial area located 30 kilometers southeast of Maimana city.
On the other hand, some other local officials say Afghan forces had launched a joint operation for reopening Balcheragh-Garziwan transportation road for traffic six days ago.
Yourish say 30 Taliban militants were killed and 14 others wounded during the operation.
A depot of ammunition and 15 motorcycles belonged to the insurgents also destroyed in the battle, he said. (Pajhwok)
