Trump’s Afghanistan Remarks Continue to Draw Flak

Trump’s Afghanistan Remarks Continue to Draw Flak

KABUL -  The Wolesi Jirga or lower house of Parliament on Wednesday condemned US President Donlad Trump’s recent remarks regarding Afghanistan and asked the US Congress not to allow Trump to hamper relations between the two countries by delivering such remarks.
On Monday, at a joint presser with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Donald Trump made remarks that included references to “wiping out Afghanistan” from the map and the “killing of ten million people”.
The remarks by the US president angered the Afghan government, the Meshrano Jirga, the Wolesi Jirga and other institutions.
Some lower house members said they were irked by Trump’s remarks which they termed against diplomatic norms and the spirit of relationship between Afghanistan and the US.
Deputy speaker Amir Khan Yar said that Trump’s remarks were his personal and had nothing to do with the people of the US.
“When Afghanistan existed on the planet, the US was not even discovered. The world is not Trump’s business lab where he could make experiments, but there are regulations by which the world is run,” he said.
A number of lawmakers held similar views and strongly condemned President Trump’s remarks. (Pajhwok)
