TIRINKOT - The governor of central Uruzgan province on Wednesday asked an UNICEF delegation to increase their humanitarian aid and support for displaced families in the province.
Governor Asadullah Saeed made the appeal during a meeting with UNICEF provincial coordination head and the delegation he led today (Wednesday).
The governor’s house in a statement said the three-member UNICEF delegation arrived in the province to assess the governor’s house affairs and other services.
Asadullah Saeed assured the UNICEF delegation of taking all measures to implement their projects in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, and districts.
He said the people of Uruzgan had suffered a lot and needed special attention from UNICEF in future.
Governor Saeed said around 10,000 families had been displaced during the past three years in the province and currently these families needed urgent assistance.
“If the UNICEF in Afghanistan wants to extend their humanitarian assistance to far away areas, we are ready to provide them all security facilities”, he said.
Urging the UNICEF to open its branch in the province, Saeed said few positive polio cases recently surfaced in Takhar due to lack of awareness programs and Taliban’s ban on vaccination.
Meanwhile, UNICEF provincial coordination director Mustafa bin Masood told Pajhwok that he was visiting the province to find a suitable place for their new office and to assess affairs they had done in the province. (Pajhwok)
