US Won’t Abandon Afghanistan: Crocker

US Won’t Abandon Afghanistan: Crocker

KUNDUZ CITY - The United States would never repeat the mistake it had committed after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan in the late '80s, the American ambassador said on Thursday.
Even after the pullout of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops by the end of 2014, American financial support to Afghanistan would continue, Ambassador Ryan Crocker told journalists.

Crocker also participated in a graduation ceremony for nearly 22 attorneys, judges and other judicial officials from Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The US sponsored the two-month course.
"If professionally trained, judicial officials will be able to better appreciate people's problems and restore their confidence in the system of justice," the diplomat told the graduation ceremony.

With the security situation in Kunduz improving, he said, his country had invested more than $200,000 million in education, agriculture and infrastructure development in the province over the past two years.
Governor Mohammad Anwar Jagdalak acknowledged American aid to the province. "By the grace of God, Kunduz is peaceful and its residents want reconstruction projects in their areas."

If public problems were not addressed, the ground would be paved for Taliban's return to the province, he warned, saying that unemployment, agriculture, water supply and transport issues needed to be addressed on a priority basis.
Appeal Court Judge Tayyeb told Pajhwok Afghan News: "Our training in areas of combating corruption, crimes, early disposal of cases and coordination between judicial authorities was very useful."
