Peace Doors Open for Taliban, Says Ghani Aide

KABUL - Participants of a gathering celebrating ‘International Day of Peace’ in Kabul urged an end to the ongoing conflict in the country through intra-Afghan dialogue.
Abdul Salam Rahimi, president's special envoy and state minister for peace affairs, insisted at the gathering entitled “21st International Peace Day and intra-Afghan Dialogue,” said that efforts for peace should take place inside the country, not abroad.
Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump called off peace talks with Taliban after a car bombing in Kabul killed at least 12 people, including an American soldier.
Peace Minister Abdul Salam Rahimi said that the ongoing conflict had been imposed on Afghans who should sit together until lasting peace was achieved in the country.
He said, “All peace doors are open for Taliban and the only way to reach lasting peace is an intra-Afghan dialogue.”
Mohammad Ihsan Zia, US Institute for Peace chief in Kabul said: “The war in our country has never been brought to an end or wiped out.’
He said some individuals claimed the US had brought this war to Afghanistan and the war’s roots were inside the country and others should not be blamed in this regard.
The International Peace Day was celebrated in a number of other provinces as well on Saturday. (Pajhwok)
