KABUL - NATO, UNAMA, the US, Pakistan, Germany and other countries have commended the Afghans who exercised their democratic right to vote in Saturday’s presidential election.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg tweeted: “#NATO stands with #Afghanistan to create the conditions for peace.”
Secretary General Stoltenberg praised Afghan women and men who exercised their democratic right to vote in the election.
Meanwhile, Pakistan congratulated the people and government of Afghanistan on successful holding of the 4th Presidential ballot.
The people of Afghanistan particularly deserved appreciation for their clear decision to continue with the democratic course despite serious hurdles and challenges, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said.
“We sincerely hope that the new government elected through a free, fair and transparent voting process will enjoy the full mandate to take the stalled peace process forward,” it added.
“This is important for ending the 18 years old conflict through an inclusive, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned negotiated political settlement. Pakistan will continue to facilitate the new Afghan government.
“Pakistan wants to see a strong, independent, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan as key to regional peace and stability,” the FO said in a statement.
In Kabul, the United Nations Assistance Mission of Afghanistan (UNAMA) commended all Afghans who cast their ballots on Saturday’s election.
In a statement, the UN mission condemned those who resorted to intimidation and violence to try and derail democracy.
The government of Germany also congratulated the Afghan government and people on the successful election.
The German embassy in Kabul tweeted: “We commend all brave Afghans who participated in the first ever Afghan-led presidential election and laud the ANDSF for their efforts to secure polling stations.
It said: “Congratulations to Afghans who braved threats & challenges to exercise their democratic right to vote. We urge calm as election officials certify results and call on all parties to respect their commitment to the Code of Conduct and #Afghan law.” (Pajhwok)

Mohib off to New York to Attend UNGA
KABUL - National Security Advisor Dr. Hamdullah Mohib has left Kabul for New York City to participate in the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), an official said on Sunday.
Kabir Haqmal, the National Security Council (NSC) spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Dr. Mohib would deliver his speech at the General Assembly.
He said Mohib will discuss latest security situation of the country, yesterday’ presidential election and the peace process in the UNGA.
The Afghan NSA is also scheduled to hold a meeting with the UN Secretary General during his visit.
During his visit to New York, Mohib will also seek the UN cooperation and will ask for its continuation in future.
Last week, Dr. Hamudllah Mohib postponed his US trip to ensure security for Saturday’s presidential and deploy security forces. (Pajhwok)
