FIROZKOH - Booksellers in western Ghor province say they are pleased with the increase in sales and growing habit of reading physical books among young people.
Noor Ahmad, one of the booksellers, in Firozkoh, the provincial capital, said: “In the past, we would sell three to four books per week but now seven to 10 books are sold on a daily basis.”
He said most of his clients were young people who preferred buying books about politics and stories.
He said youths’ interest in reading books was on the increase with each passing day and sometimes youth from poor families rented books for reading at home.
Sardar Ahmadi, another bookseller, confirmed in rise in sales, saying the buyers were youths.
Happy with his business compared to the previous year, he said, “In the past, we would sell 20 books per month but now 80 books are sold per month because of the growing reading culture among Ghoris youth.”
A number of other booksellers expressed similar views and were happy about their sales.
Mohammad Zahir, a student at the Teacher Training College, said: “I have come here to buy a book ‘Enjoy your life’ and to study it.”
He said reading improved one’s personality besides honing their skills like sound thinking and accurate analysis.
A number of youths also held similar views and called on people to adop reading habit.
Fakhruddin Aryapur, Ghor’s Information and Culture department head, expressed his happiness over the rise in reading culture among young people and said his department was trying to construct a massive library for the youth. (Pajhwok)
