KABUL - Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohammad Asharaf Haidari has welcomed his country’s taking over chairmanship of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC)’s Culture Centre Governing Board.
In a series of tweets, Haidari said Abdul Muqim Afghan will represent Afghanistan in this position for next two years.
Afghanistan has also been awarded the chairmanship of vice presidency and women’s affairs.
Haidari said Director-General of Policy and Planning of the Afghan Ministry of Information and Culture has already initiated reforms and programs to be implemented by the SAARC Cultural Center.
The programs included a SAARC Archaeology and Heritage Management Training Workshop in Kabul and a SAARC Non-Violence Day to be celebrated in Afghanistan, where more than 10000 innocent citizens were killed and maimed this year alone.
Abdul Muqim Afghan said he would make efforts in the coming two years to make Afghanistan’s Chairmanship of the SAARC Cultural Center Governing Board productive and an exemplary success for other member-states.
Despite the imposed war, he said, Afghanistan took over three leadership positions in SAARC during a productive week in Colombo.
He added Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC), as well as the Vice Presidency of Afghanistan consistently pursued a foreign policy agenda that advances regional security and economic cooperation across South Asia. (Pajhwok)
