FARAH CITY - The Taliban on Thursday allowed telecom companies to resume services in western Farah province only for three hours a day, ending a 15-day full blackout.
Four private and the state-run Salaam telecom companies are operating in Farah province.
The Taliban have banned telecom services, except Salaam Telecom, from operating in the province for the last 15 days. The Salam telecom alone could not meet public need.
A worker of Etisalat Telecom Company, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban allowed telecom companies today to keep their services accessible only between 11am until 2pm.
The shutdown of telecom services has created serious problems for Farah people.
Nisar Ahmad, a resident of Farah city, the provincial capital, said that people could not contact their friends and businesses and have to travel from one plance to another for a work that could be done by a telephone call.
Citing an example, he said he was informed three days later about an accident in which three of his relatives had been killed. He asked the Taliban to let telecom services resume their service for 24 hours a day.
Farah governor Mohammad Shoaib Sabit said he had talked with telecom officials to resolve the problem.
The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MCIT) and telecom companies refused to comment in this regard. (Pajhwok)
