First-Ever Natural Gas Power Plant  Starts Test Operation

KABUL - For the first time in Afghanistan, a natural gas power plant has started test operation, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) said on Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said the power plant was activated in Shiberghan City of Jawzjan province.
It said the plant produced electricity from natural gas and has the capacity of producing 40MW of power. The Bayat Power-funded project has been activated on test basis.
The MoMP statement thousands of families in Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan and Faryab provinces would be supplied electricity from the power plant.

Qader Khan Mutafa, MoMP spokesman, told Pajhwok that the power plant cost $12 million contributed by the Asian Development Bank. (Pajhwok)
