MoUDH Registers 753,233  Informal Urban Houses

KABUL - The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MoUDH) has surveyed and registered 753,233 informal urban houses in the capitals of some provinces including Kabul.
In a statement, the ministry said the surveyed cities included Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif, Herat Jalalabad, Kandahar, Farah, Bamyan and Neili.
The ministry also surveyed and registered 474,972 informal and unplanned houses in Kabul, 81,442 in Mazar-i-Sharif, 72,743 in Herat, 51,818 in Kandahar City, 24,384 in Jalalabad, 12,392 in Bamyan City, 12,014 houses in Farah City and 7,138 in Neilli.
The statement added the scope of the ministry’s Programme for Registration of Urban Informal Settlements (PRUIS) had been broadened to the district level.
As a result, 6,721 informal urban houses were surveyed and registered in the Injil district of Herat province, 4,670 in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, 3,772 in the Mir Bacha Kot district of Kabul and 2,617 in the Balkh district of Balkh.
PRUIS aims to register informal urban houses, issue occupancy certificates, eliminate discrimination between formal and informal areas, provide equal urban services and convert informal and unplanned settlements into leisure areas.
The ministry said 20,000 occupancy certificates had been distributed to occupants of houses registered in Kabul, Herat, Jalalabad, Bamyan and Neili.
By end of 2020, the ministry of Urban Development and Land intends to distribute 50,000 occupancy certificates in the eight cities, benefiting 3,000,000 residents. (Pajhwok)
