Lack of Cold Storages: Ghor Farmers Fear Losses Next Year

FIROZKOH - A number of farmers in western Ghor province on Sunday complained about the lack of cold storages and urged the government to pay attention to the matter.
The growers are complaining about the shortage of cold storages to preserve their produces at a time when agriculture harvests have recently increased in Ghor.
The farmers say the government should to take measures for construction of cold storages in the province otherwise they will face with financial losses next year.
Sayed Yahya Hussaini, a famer in Firozkoh City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News not a single standard cold storage existed across the province.
Hussiani collected above 2,000 kilograms of apples from his garden this year but he is worried about the fruit’s preservation until sold.
The farmer said growers in Ghor province increased each year and the government should establish cold storages for them.
Abdul Rauf, another famer, also complained about lack of cold storages, saying crop production increased this year but they were worried how to keep the harvests for a long time.
A number of other farmers held similar views and urged the government to construct cold storages in Ghor province as soon as possible.
Mohammad Juma Matin, an agriculture export, also termed the lack of cold storage a huge problem for famers in Ghor and said if the government constructed cold storages, the move would benefit growers.
Agriculture officials in Ghor also confirmed the issue and said efforts were underway to construct cold storages in Ghor in near future. (Pajhwok)
