Samangan Doctors  on Strike, Demand  Pending Salaries

AIBAK - Doctors and paramedical staff of the Civil Hospital in northern Samangan province on Monday went on strike over what they said non-payment of salaries for the last four months.
They boycotted duty this morning, leaving dozens of admitted patients unattended in the hospital. The hospital is visited by hundreds of every day.
Dr. Maki, a gynecologist in the hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News they went on strike to protest non-payment of their four months’ salary.
Shujauddin, 60, resident of Khuram district, who brought his wife for treatment to the health center, said: “My wife is ill and I brought her here today but the doctors are on strike and they do not care. I don’t know what to do.”
Dr. Abdul Khalil, head of provincial public health department, in a telephonic conversation told Pajhwok: “Right now I’m in Kabul and I have shared the salary issue with the Ministry of Public Health, the main problem is with the Ministry of Finance which does not release salaries on time.”
He said the issue had been resolved and salaries of the doctors would be paid soon. (Pajhwok)
