Huge Fish Farm Being  Built in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY - Work on establishing a huge fish farm in southern Kandahar province has been launched.
The farm is being built in the Daman district of the province under a programme of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
Abdul Hanan Munib, Agriculture Director Syed Hafizullah Saeedi and other officials attended the launching ceremony.
Saeedi told Pajhwok Afghan New the fish farm was being set up on 10 acres of land at a cost of 7.5 million afghanis.
The farm, containing 27 big and small pools, will have capacity for 500,000 fish. Some 1,600 fish farms exist in Kandahar, meeting 50 percent of the country’s need.
Saeedi said 40 percent the country’s fish requirement was met through imports.
Deputy Governor Abdul Hanan Munib called the farm a giant stride towards boosting the domestic economy.
He hoped dozens of people would be provided with job opportunities with the completion of the big fish farm. (Pajhwok)
