Assembly Receives Committees’ Proposals

KABUL - The traditional Loya Jirga on the strategic cooperation agreement with the US has received suggestions from all the 40 committees and submitted a summary to a special meeting, the Jirga chairman announced on Saturday. On the fourth and concluding day of the tribal gathering, Sibghatullah Mujaddadi said the participants honestly and freely shared their views and recommendations over the past three days and an outline was read out to a special session by the Jirga Secretariat on Saturday night.

He did not elaborate on the issue, but said committees heads would present their suggestions and recommendations on the strategic pact and a peace mechanism to a general session of the grand assembly.

He praised the security personnel for maintaining security, saying: "The enemies made every possible effort to disrupt the important meeting, but they could not succeed as some of them were detained."
In defiance of intimidation and warnings from the Taliban, the attendees took part in the jirga and showed remarkable valour and zeal, he concluded.
