KABUL - On December 11, 2019, U.S. Federal Court convicted Afghan former chairperson of IEC Ahmad Yusuf Nuristani to welfare fraud accusing him of receiving over $100,000 in government benefits by concealing foreign travel and residency between July 2015 and December 2018.
According to the statement released by U.S. Attorney's Office, Ahmad Yousuf Nooristani, former chairperson of Independent Election Commission (IEC) sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and paying up to $250,000 fine.
Mr. Nuristani admitted that he applied for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the Social Security Administration in July 2015.
Following the sentence, Nuristani agreed to make full restitution to the Social Security Administration and the California Department of Health Care Services.
Few times back on May 2019, he had been sentenced to 13 months in jail by ACJC due to plundering public money, but the Ministry of Interior has been failed to take him into custody. (THE KILLID GROUP)
