PESHAWAR - Pakistan should not ignore Afghanistan as it is a huge market, a senior political figure from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province says.
Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao also asked the underlined the need for formalising trade activities between the neighbours.
Much of the bilateral trade took place through unfrequented routes, which was damaging Pakistan’s economy, argued Sherpao – who is also a former interior minister.
Speaking to to a delegation of businessmen and lawyers at the QWP Secretariat in Peshawar, Sherpao was urged to use his relations with the Afghan government to help resolve the problems being faced by businesspeople.
In response, Sherpao promised doing his bit to highlight their problems at all forums. He vowed to take up the issues with the Afghan government.
His party would soon convene a conference of businessmen representing all bodies of the traders to evolve a strategy for resolving their problems, he announced.
The QWP leader asked the government to remove hurdles to trade activities between Islamabad and Kabul. Consistent efforts were needed to boost the bilateral trade volume, he said. (Pajhwok)
