KABUL - The Japanese government announced on Monday conferring top award on Tetsu Nakamura, an aid worker who was killed in a shooting in eastern Nangarhar province.
The 73-year-old physician would be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference.
According to a Japanese newspaper, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will also give a letter of gratitude to honor Dr. Nakamura’s significant achievements for the development of Afghanistan.
A ceremony would be held on Friday to honour the slain doctor, the government spokesman said. Gold Rays with Rosette is awarded for achievements in international relations and other fields.
Recognising his contributions, the Afghan government commended the Japanese doctor last year.
