Bajaur: Call to Reopen Trade Routes with Afghanistan

Bajaur: Call to Reopen Trade Routes with Afghanistan

PESHAWAR - Representatives of political parties and businessmen have demanded the reopening of the Pak-Afghan trade points in the Bajaur tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The reopening of Pak-Afghan trade routes was the need of the hour, they said while speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Khar trader association’s members on Sunday.
They said trade with border areas in Afghanistan had been a key source of livelihood and employment for Bajaur residents in the not-s-distant past.
According to the speakers, there were five trade routes in the district. But they have been closed since 2007, causing unemployment and harming business activities.
Given its proximity to Kunar and Nangarhar provinces, Bajaur was described as an ideal tribal district for trade with Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
