Violence against women sharply declines in Baghlan

KABUL: Violence against women cases significantly decreased in northern Baghlan province this year compared, an official said on Wednesday.
Women affairs director Khudija Yaqeen told a press conference in Pul-i-Khumri City, the provincial capital, that they recorded 279 violence cases last year compared to 215 cases this year, showing a significant decrease. She said mostly assassinations and runaway from home cases had decreased due to awareness and their consultations with people in this regard.
According to her information, 14 murder cases happened last year, but the number downed to nine this year.
He said added 19 engagement cancelation cases were registered this year while the number of such cases was higher last year.
She added conducting public awareness events in faraway areas of the province played a crucial and important role in decreasing violence cases against women in the province. (pajwak)
