Senate Approves 3 Pacts  with Foreign Countries

KABUL - The Meshrano Jirga, upper house of Parliament, on Tuesday approved three agreements with Iran, Russia and Tajikistan. The draft accords sent to the house on Tuesday had been approved, said members of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

The pacts pertains to enhancing trade relations with Russia, development of human resources and sharing technical expertise with Iran and the construction of a water pipeline between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

A commission member, Najiba Hussaini, said the agreement with Russia was signed between the two countries' foreign ministers last year.

Under the accord, a joint commission will be created to facilitate traders. The annual trade volume between the two countries stands at $500 million.

Hussaini said Iran would provide technical training to people in a number of Afghan provinces as part of the agreement, which was signed by foreign ministers of the two countries in Kabul last year.

Another member of the commission, Humaira Niamati, said a pipeline carrying 150 liters of water per second would be built between Tajikistan and Afghanistan under the three-year agreement inked in 2010.
