President Reminded Kandahar Airport Standardizing Vow

KANDAHAR CITY - Residents of southern Kandahar province say the provincial airport has been named after Ahmad Shah Baba but its services are yet to be standardized despite promises.
Local people say the airport has not been able to provide even normal services.
President Ashraf Ghani on July 3, 2019 renamed the Kandahar airport as Ahmad Shah Abdali airport.
The president had said the airport would be invested after its name was changed.
He had said that Kandahar products would be exported to Gulf, Europe and other countries through this airport.
However, Kandahar residents say services in the airport are still substandard as months had passed since the president’s promises.
Haji Sayed Mohammad, a resident of Kandahar city, the provincial capital, who usually travels to a foreign country, told Pajhwok Afghan News that officials cheated the public by renaming the airport.
Lack of electricity, air conditioning, security cameras, shortage of equipment, toilets, dirty environment, drug smuggling and many other problems plagued the airport, he said.
He said passengers also faced problems in the transport area  and only a limited number of taxis were allowed to enter the airport.
Mohammad also complained about anomalies in the checking system and said computers suddenly turned off during
The governor also asked organs concerned to provide needed facilities, identify problems and find solutions to them within one week.
He assured to resolve current problems and provide standard services to passengers in the airport. The airport has 13,000 acres of yard ---a part of it has been given to foreign forces and in one part 205thAtal Military Corps, and some other firms have established buildings. (Pajhwok)
