Taliban Behind Closure of 110 Hospitals: Firoz

KABUL - The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) on Tuesday said the ongoing conflict destroyed 52 hospitals nationwide and resulted in closure of another 110.
Public Health Minister Firozuddin Firoz told a press conference in Kabul that his ministry received inadequate budget each year to provide necessary services to people.
According to him, 186 government hospitals and 3,500 healthcare facilities are allocated 12 billion afghanis budget which is not enough to offer good healthcare services.
He said around 400 new healthcare services were constructed last year, which provided 90 percent basic healthcare services to the countrymen.
However, Firoz said 52 healthcare services were destroyed last year and 110 others closed by Taliban militants.
He further said a survey was conducted to know factors of non-infectious diseases in 55 districts of 22 provinces in 2018.
The minister said weight loss among women, low blood volume, high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol, smoking and tobacco use, low consumption of salad and fruits, and high salt intake and no exercise caused non-infectious diseases.
He said the number of healthcare facilities for drug addicts reached 110 within the past five years, but easily access to drugs in Afghanistan stemmed from poverty and unemployment.
He added for the first time, kidney surgery was successfully performed at the Kabul Mohammad Ali Jinnah hospital. (Pajhwok)
