Samangan’s First  Female Driver Hailed  as Courageous

AIBAK - The first female driver in northern Samangan province says she learned driving in a week and now she feelsa happy despite hearing some unfair words from men.
Sediqa Muradi, 40, from Gul Qeshlaq village of Aibak City, said her interest in driving led her to learn it in a week in cooperation with her son.
“My child showed me traffic rules and driving techniques in a week and after that I personally started driving and now I could drive corolla type vehicles,” she said.
“Driving vehicle by a woman is something different for people in Samangan and I often get harassed by men.”
“They often should at me and say Oh! ant, it is not foreign, it is Afghanistan. How can you drive?”
“I can drive with complete courage, driving for women has no restrictions in Sharia, some men often harass me while driving and some stare at me, but I don’t care and do my driving,” she said.
Mohammad Hashim, a driver, said the roads in Aibak city were asphalted and women could also drive on these roads.
ShakelaHanafi, a women rights activist, said: “Muradi is a courageous woman and the only female driver in Samangan. Now that she has started driving, other women would be encouraged to drive.” (Pajhwok)
