Pakistan Plans to Extend Railroad to Jalalabad

PESHAWAR - The Main Line-I (ML-I) railway track will be extended by 154 km from Peshawar to Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, a cabinet minister says.
Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, speaking at the inaugural ceremony for a freight train, made the announcement in Lahore on Saturday.
The minister called the completion of the ML-I project his main objective, saying he would stand down immediately after the plan was executed.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with China under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative to boost connectivity among Peshawar, Lahore, and Karachi.
Rashid said the track between Peshawar and Jalalabad would also be included in CPEC. He hoped Federal Minister Asad Umar would ensure early tenders for the ML-1 project. (Pajhwok)
