KABUL - Afghan government said on Saturday it collected more than 208 billion afghanis in national revenue in 2019.
It is an increase of over 8 percent compared to 190 billion afghanis. The International Monetary Fund had set 209 billion afghanis revenue collection for 2019.
Essa Qudrat, Deputy Minister Customs and Revenue at Ministry ofFinance, told a press conference that revenues increased in 2019 due to reforms.
“Transparency, fight against corruption, reforms, increasing efficiency, equal enforcement of law in all tax areas are the reasons why we are collecting tax better,” Qudrat said.
Afghanistan depends on billions of dollars in foreign aid. Increased revenue is key to reassuring donors as international attention on Afghanistan fades.
Qudrat said that the government was seeking to become self-reliant. (1TV NEWS)
