Wang Yu: China Takes Necessary Measures to Control and Prevent Coronavirus

KABUL – World leaders have expressed their confidence that China will overcome the novel coronavirus pneumonia and control and prevent the outbreak, said Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu.
Addressing a press conference in Kabul on Sunday, Wang Yu said that world leaders, including Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah, and foreign dignitaries have admired China’s performance in control and prevention of the coronavirus.
Saying that the world should not be “overactive” in spreading estimated statistics, Wang Yu stated that the mortality rate as a result of the disease is 1.3 percent and the cure rate outnumbered on 1st February. He added that 202 cases, including 12 cases in the United States, were reported outside China but zero in Afghanistan and other countries bordering it. He stressed that the infectious rate is in medium level with low mortality rate.
According to Wang, China has blocked Wuhan city, the epicenter of the coronavirus, to prevent the further spread of the disease to the world. According to him, China’s capabilities are evidenced by the newly built Huoshenshan hospital in Wuhan, which has 1,000 beds, and 64 clinics are operating to deal with suspect cases and 54 hospitals are dealing with serious patients in Wuhan to rescue their lives.
Wang said that China had contributed to the world in health sector. China also sent medical team to Africa to fight against the Ebola disease in the past, and 57 Chinese medical teams are working in 56 countries right now, Wang said.
Reiterating China’s support to Afghanistan in health sector, Wang said that currently 200 Afghan students were studying in China, with 42 in Wuhan. He said those students were treated like Chinese citizens and Chinese officials as well as Afghanistan’s embassy in China held close contact with them. He illustrated that a letter written by one of the Afghan students said they were provided with sufficient food and had no worries. He appreciated Afghan students for expressing their “love”, “support”, and “solidarity” to China via a video clip.
According to Wang, China would work closely with other countries, including Afghanistan, to fight the epidemic disease. He said that China had taken necessary measures to control and prevent the spread of the disease in any countries as well as Afghanistan as Chinese citizens were asked to postpone their trips to Afghanistan and travelers are checked in the airport with the support of China.
