Agriculture Cooperatives Financially Sound, Says Ministry

KABUL - The economic and financial condition of Agriculture Cooperatives has improved nation-wide compared to their situation four years back and their number surged from 30 to 159 cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Saturday.
Agriculture Cooperative is an independent social network associated to farmers and livestock owners and is created through the membership of at least 11 farmers.
This network has a defined structure and is spearheaded by own leadership independently. They collect membership fee and make investment in agriculture related business opportunities.
A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, marking the International Day of Cooperatives, said that the economic and financial condition of cooperatives had improved in the country.
Currently over 150 cooperatives were functional countrywide and 80 percent of them had been created in the past three years due the provision of better services and advice from the Agriculture Ministry.
Abdul Razaq Mujadidi, head of cooperatives in the ministry, said that cooperatives could play their role in increasing agriculture produce and providing services to farmers.
He said in 2017, the number of cooperatives was 30 but now their strength increased above 150 in the country.
He noted that cooperatives were economically sound and raised funds for support of farmers. (Pajhwok)
