Ancient Citadel in Kabul Being Restored

KABUL - An ancient citadel in downtown Kabul, which covers 48,000 square meters and has existed for more than one and a half centuries, is being restored.
The citadel has seven towers and five arsenals and is located on Klola Poshta hill in downtown Kabul. It has been used for war in different periods.
It was built during the time of Abdul Rahman Khan, who was emir of Afghanistan from 1880 to 1901, and was used for military purposes for more than a century.
“Each of the arsenals and the towers here has been built with different architectural designs and this shows the creativity of architects at that time,” said Wasim Raufi, an architect.
The routes to the citadel are also under construction.
“We have been working here for almost a year.
The stones used here are brought from Maidan Shahr (capital city of Maidan Wardak province) and are used as in the past,” said Ahmad Farid, a worker.
“The citadel is being restored with the same material that has been used in its construction,” said Mohammad Mustafa Nawid, spokesman for the National Development Company, a government-owned entity of eight state companies that operates under the Presidential Palace.
The Afghan government has invested Afs110 million (over $1.4 million) in the project by hiring 65 workers. (TOLO NEWS)
