Schools to Reopen Next Month  Conditionally: Cabinet

KABUL - The Cabinet has decided to conditionally reopen schools and universities on August 6.
President Ashraf Ghani chaired the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening and decided to conditionally reopen schools and universities next month depending on the prevalence of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the Cabinet meeting was held via a video conference where cabinet members and governors were also present.
The cabinet said reopening of schools would be decided based on the assessment of the Ministry of Public Health.
The ministers also discussed plans to adjust working hours of offices, and approved recommendations from the Emergency Committee for the Prevention of Coronavirus and to let workers come in shifts and keep working hours from 8am to 4pm.
Ghani also instructed the security and defence institutions to prepare” for repelling enemy attacks.
President Ghani welcomed the newly appointed governors in some provinces and their presence at the cabinet meeting, and called on the cabinet members and provincial governors to work together to implement the security pact in the center and its implementation in other provinces in the future.
The president directed Cabinet members, provincial governors and heads of departments to register the assets of the relevant authorities under their influence within a week, or they their salaries would be reduced.
The cabinet also drafted the second document of the National Peace and Development Framework, for re-booting the Afghan economy and achieving the goals of self-reliance, reducing poverty and deepening citizen-government relation. (Pajhwok)
