US Promises Aid to Bamyan Beyond 2014

BAMYAN CITY - Five welfare projects have been completed with financial support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in the central province of Bamyan, officials said on Thursday.

Completed in one year, the projects include asphalting a 1.5-kilometre road, construction of a two kilometers pathway, 17garbage bins, four toilets and provision of trucks to the municipality.

Executed by the Bamyan Municipality, the projects cost $925,000 (44.6 Afghanis) provided by the USAID. At the inaugural ceremony, USAID Mission Director Ken Yamashita said he was happy to open the projects.

He promised the US would continue its support for welfare projects beyond the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan in 2014.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Habiba Sarabi thanked the USAID for funding the projects. She said USAID had funded different projects in the province in areas of health, development and education.
These projects would improve the living standards of Bamyan residents, hoped Bamyan Mayor Hussain Fitrat.
