Ministry Insists on NFP Implementation

KABUL - The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development on Thursday insisted on implantation of the National Food Package (NFP) despite its rejection by the parliament.
The Wolesi Jirga or lower house on Tuesday by the majority of votes rejected the $244 million NFP for destitute families and termed it as illegal.
Inaugurating the $244 million package, the president vowed transparency in distribution of essential food items under the program and warned against corruption in the package.
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Minister Mujib Rahman Karimi today told a press conference that besides other difficulties the people of Afghanistan were hit hard by coronavirus economically and it was the government’s responsibility to support them.
The Presidential Palace had also urged the Wolesi Jirga to endorse the program and monitor its implementation.
Karimi said NFP was a national scheme and was owned by the people, adding all people of the country were responsible to monitor and help in its implementation.
Under the program, he said, 90 percent people in all the provinces would receive food and other essential goods.
Other items like flour, rice, ghee, pulses and soaps would be distributed to poor families under the scheme, he added. (Pajhwok)
