Indian Authorities Seize Drug Smuggled from Afghanistan

KABUL - Indian Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) personnel in a joint operation seized 191 kg of heroin worth Rs 1000 crore from Nhava Sheva port of Navi Mumbai on Saturday night, a media report said.
The drug was smuggled from Afghanistan via Iran.Two people have been arrested in the case.
"Transported inside pipes, drugs were brought through Afghanistan. Court has sent the two accused to 14 days police custody," news agency ANI quoted Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
According to Times of India (TOI), two custom house agents who had documented the import, have been arrested. The smugglers had concealed the drug in plastic pipes and painted them to look like bamboo and declared it as Ayurvedic medicines.
TOI has learnt that four more persons including an importer and a financier from Delhi have been picked up and may be brought to Mumbai.
The seizure is one of the biggest narcotics haul in the city. It was made after an alert from Customs officer which detected mis-declaration in consignment at the port, as per TOI. (Pajhwok)
