Afghan Government, Taliban Urged to Avoid Statements That Damage Peace Process

KABUL - High Council for National Reconciliation's spokesman on Sunday urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to avoid statements that damage peace process.
The call comes after a Taliban spokesman said that the group does not recognize the Afghan government, saying it was imported by the West.
A presidential spokesman in response said that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan represents the absolute majority of people and that the Taliban represents no sections of the nation.
“We hope that both sides avoid moves and statements that damage the peace process, and their language should focus on getting us closer and removing misunderstandings,” said Fraidoon Khwazoon, a spokesman for High Council for National Reconciliation.
He said that the Afghan negotiating team was ready to begin talks with the Taliban. “We are waiting for the Taliban to get ready.” (1TV NEWS)
