Putin Sends Ghani Afghanistan Independence Day Message

KABUL - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to President Ashraf Ghani marking Afghanistan Independence Day.
The message was delivered to Ghani by Russian Ambassador in Kabul Dmitry Alexandrovich Zhirnov.
In the message, Putin expressed satisfaction over “friendly relations” between the two countries and said that he was confident that constructive bilateral ties would expand in various fields, Ghani’s office said in a statement.
Putin said that partnering in countering terrorism and drug ensures fundamental interests of the people of the two countries and improves security and stability in the region.
He also wished good health for Ghani and success, peace and welfare for the people of Afghanistan.
For his part, Ghani said that the Afghan government seriously fights terrorist groups related to Central Asia and that drug is a serious threat to the region.
He said that the Afghan government’s actions against Islamic State militant group have been comprehensive and with achievements.
Ghani said that Afghans’ fight against IS and terrorism has been an exceptional fight and they have paid huge sacrifices for the security of the region and the world.
Ghani also emphasized on the importance of exports, especially of fruits, to Russia and asked Russia to invest in Afghanistan rail sector. (1TV NEWS)
