Panjsher Governor, Police Chief Summoned to Kabul

KABUL - First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh has tasked the Ministry of Interior with summoning the acting governor and police chief of central Panjsher to Kabul.
The top provincial officials will be grilled on a failed operation aimed at the arrest of Keramuddin Karim, former chief of the Afghanistan Football Federation.
The Attorney General Office (AGO) has ordered the arrest of Keramuddin Karim, who is accused of sexually harassing female football players. But he has fled to Panjsher and is yet to be arrested.
Two days back, Afghan security forces conducted an operation to detain Karim but residents and guards of the former AFF chief resisted the attempt.
Saleh said Karim should face courts on the issue of the allegations leveled against him.
Amid criticism of the failed operation on social media, Saleh wrote on his Facebook page the MoI had been tasked to summon the governor and the police chief to Kabul.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Amin Siddiqi confirmed the unsuccessful raid was carried out in Bazark area on Sunday night.
He said the security forces, with air support, conducted the raid to arrest Karim, but residents of the area traded gunfire with the raiding party.
With regard to the failed operation, Saleh said politicising criminal and legal matters for petty personal gains was “very shameful”. (Pajhwok)
