India to Renovate Kabul’s Bala Hissar Fortress

KABUL - India has pledged to finance renovation of Bala Hissar, an ancient fortress built around the 5th century in Kabul.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and diplomatic representative of Agha Khan Development Network in the presence of President Ashraf Ghani on Monday.
Bala Hissar saw some of the worst fighting between Afghan forces and the invading British during the two Anglo-Afghan wars in the 19th century.
The Indian envoy said that his country wants a peaceful, prosperous and developed Afghanistan and expressed hope that the Bala Hissar project ends successfully.
Ghani said that historical structures reflect a history full of prides, and their renovation not only shows relations with the past, but also carries the greatness of the nation to future nations.
He said that Bala Hissar is not just a symbol, but a historical representation that expresses people’s struggles and abilities to carry out great works.
The president thanked India for its assistance to Afghanistan, saying it would help defend republic and other values which bring the two countries closer. (1TV NEWS)
