Kabul, Paris Discuss Ties,  Intra-Afghan Talks

KABUL - Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar held a telephonic conversation with his French counterpart Jean Yves Le Drian and both conferred on further strengthening bilateral ties.
Atmar thanked the French people and government for their continuous support and cooperation with Afghanistan over the past 19 years, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.
Jean Yves Le Drian expressed his government’s full support to the Afghanistan peace process and commended the Afghan government’s efforts in this regard.
Drian reiterated his government’s support for a ceasefire and importance of preserving the democratic achievements of the people.
Furthermore, the two ministers discussed the exchange of prisoners and the immediate start of peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
During the telephonic call, both ministers also agreed to explore possibilities of capacity building programs for Afghan diplomats by French institutions. (Pajhwok)
