Female Surgeons in Herat Perform  Complex Neurosurgery

HERAT, Afghanistan – A group of female surgeons in western province of Herat performed a complex brain surgery “successfully,” according to health officials as local media reported.
Doctor Naser Habib, Head of provincial hospital, said a group of five female physicians for the first time carried a complex brain surgery without any help from the male physicians.
The 65-year-old patient had suffered brain hemorrhage (also cerebral bleed) due to high blood pressure, paralyzing half-right side of the body, Parisa Hassan Zada, one of the five female surgeons, explained.  But after the surgery he has recovered.
Meanwhile, Farishta Habib, another surgeon, called the “successful operation” a showcase of women’s capacity in various field, such as Surgery.
According to Habib, neurosurgery is one of the most difficult part of medical science, but a group of female doctors in the province bid to take a specialized neurology course. (KHAAMA PRESS)
