Afghan Government Says Technical Issues for Taliban Talks Almost Resolved

KABUL - Afghan government said on Monday that the technical issues for peace talks with the Taliban in Qatar were almost resolved.
Sediq Sediqi, a presidential spokesman, said that the government had sent a technical team to Doha few days ago had worked on details of starting the talks and the issues had almost been resolved.
“Since it is an extraordinarily important event for Afghanistan and the world, more needs to be done,” he said.
Afghan negotiators had expected to fly to Doha last week after the government completion of release of almost all prisoners the Taliban were demanding ahead of talks.
However, their trip has repeatedly been delayed.
Sediqi said that the negotiating team was fully ready to begin talks, as he blamed the Taliban for the delay.
“Delay means more deaths among Afghans,” he said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that there were no “major issues” causing the delay, adding that they were waiting for six prisoners to be released, according to Reuters. (1TV NEWS)
