Doha Talks’ Atmosphere Somehow Satisfactory: Sadati

KABUL - The High National Reconciliation Council (HNRC) deputy chairman on Saturday said the intra-Afghan talks’ atmosphere was somehow satisfactory.
Addressing youth from six provinces, Asadullah Sadati called on both the sides not to create obstacles to the process so it could proceed well.
He criticized intensification of the conflict in some provinces by the Taliban, saying hundreds of people were killed and wounded since the start of the intra-Afghan talks. “If the Taliban don’t show goodwill, real peace will not be achieved.”
Sara Sirat, speaking on behalf of youth and women of the six provinces, said they supported the peace process led by Afghans and called upon both sides to cooperate in reaching peace.
“We demand transparency and result-oriented negotiations, we hope that decisions and talks will not be held behind closed doors,” she remarked.
While Sadati called the beginning of intra-Afghan talks as a historic opportunity, saying it was fortunate that all political parties and people of Afghanistan were on the same page when it came to peace process.
The international community was watching the situation and if one of the parties tried to create problems against the process, it would face international pressure, he said. (Pajhwok)
