KABUL - Theater artists on Sunday said their shows have been confined to holiday celebrations, while instead they want to have regular performances for the people to introduce the art and reflect relevant social issues.
As part of the efforts to portray the problems in society, a group of artists have started a theater show in Kabul titled: “Let's Break the Silence” to condemn the act of Bacha Bazi--pedophilia--
in the country.
“Our goal is to fight the act of Bacha Bazi and the theater show was successful,” said Humayun Sakhi, writer and director of the show.
“We have not had theater shows for the people like we did in the past,” said Shamsuddin Yusufzai, head of programming at the Kabul National Theatre, also called Kabul Nandare.
Theater artists said they are faced with a lack of facilities to organize big shows.
“There was a time when people came with their families to the central theater but now the hall is not active,” said Ghafar Zaram, an artist.
“When we decide on a show, we don’t have access to facilities...We propose these facilities but it takes four to six months,” said Laila Hamdard, an artist. (TOLO NEWS)
