30pc of Schools Without Buildings in Herat

HERAT CITY - Education officials say 30 percent of schools lack buildings and students are taught in tents in western Herat province.
Zekria Rahmani, director of education, told Pajhwok Afghan News that construction work to build 250 schools was underway since two years under Iqra program of the government.
He said at least 60 schools had been established in Herat City and districts during the ongoing year.
However, he said 30 percent of schools still lacked buildings and hoped the issue would be resolved in the ongoing year.
According to officials, currently about one million students (boys and girls) are enrolled in Herat schools.
Jailani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, acknowledged that education facilities were not enough in the province.
Ali Ahmad, student of 6th grade in Injil district, told Pajhwok: “Our school has no building and students are taught under tent and teachers say a building for the school will be built.”
Meanwhile, residents complained about low quality teaching, saying that the lessons were not standard. They urged the government to focus more on teaching quality. (Pajhwok)
