Ghani to Introduce Cabinet Picks Next Tuesday

KABUL - The Wolesi Jirga Secretariat on Tuesday said the designate-ministers will be introduced to the lower house by the president during a special meeting next Tuesday.
President Ashraf Ghani took oath of his second term on March 9,2020 and promised to quickly form cabinet and refer ministers-designate to the Lower House for a vote of confidence, a promise yet to be honored.
The Wolesi Jirga has several times criticized running of the government affairs by acting officials and not referring ministers-designates to the Wolesi Jirga for a trust vote.
Abdul Qatar Zazai, Wolesi Jirga’s secretary, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Wolesi Jirga commissions’ heads had reached a decision with the Administrative Affairs Office and the National Security Advisor to introduce the ministerial nominees for approval from the house.
He said according to the decision, President Ghani would introduce the ministers-designate by next Tuesday.
According to him, documents of all the ministerial candidates, including their appointment decrees and education qualification, have already been submitted to the Wolesi Jirga and shared with the permanent commissions.
He said only the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) and the Afghan Red Crescent Society heads had so far been introduced to the house through letters but the government had promised to introduce all the nominees till next Tuesday.
Zazai said once President Ghani introduced the ministers-designate and their documents reviewed, the lower house would include the trust vote in its agenda. (Pajhwok)
