Taliban Continue War Despite Prisoners’ Release: ARG

KABUL - The Presidential Palace on Monday said the Afghan government released thousands of Taliban prisoners as a goodwill gesture, but the militants continued the war in the country.
Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Presidential Palace, said in a series of tweets said the Afghan Afghanistan and people decided to release 6,100 Taliban prisoners to speed up the peace process, something unparalleled in any peace process in the world.
He said the Afghan government took the decision to encourage the Taliban for ending the ongoing conflict and to declare a lasting peace across the country.
But latest Taliban attacks in western Ghor and southern Helmand provinces showed the Taliban took advantage from the goodwill gesture of Afghans.
Hundreds of civilians have been killed and wounded and tens of thousands displaced due to recent attacks in Helmand province a few days back.
US and NATO forces in Afghanistan have strongly condemned the Taliban attacks and termed as against the Doha agreement. (Pajhwok)
