Baghlan Civil, Military Spheres Being Reformed: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has said fundamental reforms are being brought to the civil and military sectors of northern Baghlan province to improve their efficiency.
The president said this during a meeting with tribal elders and influential figures from the province at the Presidential Palace on Thursday afternoon.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the Baghlan elders voiced their support for the democratic system and the launch of direct peace talks.
The elders shared their demands and problems with the president regarding appointment of officials as head of the civil and military departments in consultation with the people of Baghlan.
They also talked about insufficient security forces’ strength in Baghlan, insecurity on highways, illegal armed groups and launch of military operations.
They sought attention to women’s role, end to the culture of acting officials, coordination among civil and military leadership and prevention of illegal mining.
In response, President Ghani termed their demands as legitimate and said the Baghlan civil and military affairs needed drastic reforms.
Terming Baghlan as important in terms of its geographic location and human resources, Ghani said basic changes would be brought to the province civil and military spheres.

He assured the people of Baghlan, particularly women, of no compromise over the constitution and achievements of the past two decades. (Pajhwok)
