KABUL - First vice-president Amarullah Saleh on Friday said nearly $800 million in cash was smuggled out of the country last year.
Saleh, who also has taken charge of Kabul security, wrote his Facebook page that Kabul’s first police district chief was under pressure from some politicians to return money and gold he had confiscated from smugglers.
“All law enforcing agencies are defended. They should not return confiscated things to smugglers without a court verdict.”
He said last year alone nearly $800 million in cash was smuggled out of the country through routes in the northern zone.
He said the smuggling of money and gold out of the country was a huge challenge, which promoted escape from law and criminal economy.
The first vice president said he had been given the list of people who smuggled money out of the country.
Saleh said action would be initiated from tomorrow on his promise of sealing showrooms selling stolen cars.
A day earlier, Saleh said showrooms selling stolen cars in Kabul’s Qarabagh district and neighboring Parwan province would be raided and the stolen vehicles confiscated.
He said the Kabul municipality had handed him the list of high rising buildings which had been constructed illegally.
He said the list would be published in phases with pictures of the law breakers. (Pajhwok)
